As our plans to build BZC were taking shape, we had to think of ways how to bring all resources to our piece of land. BZC is located next to a lake and the easiest way for access to the land is by boat. This means that we had to pay someone for every boat trip in order to bring our goods to the location. After a quick calculation, buying a boat for the startup of BZC was a little less expensive than paying people for transport. So we decided to buy a boat.
Another advantage of having a boat with motor is that it can be used for commercial activities and for the larger Bunyoni community. As BZC needs to become self sustaining, members of the community can use the boat to provide transportation to other people, and have an income. Last but not least, we can paint the boat and really give our community an identity and exposure to the larger community at lake Bunyonyi, in order to get recognition, and also cooperation from other communities with growing our community.
